In these days when nostalgia is all the rage, what better way to bring back memories than an old-fashioned ice cream parlor?

This touch of nostalgia has been returned to Mount Pocono by the Ligend Corporation.

Who is Ligend? Diane and Victor Genco, Sheila and George Litz, and Ruth and John Hildebrand have taken over operation of the Casino Theatre Building on Route 611 in Mount Pocono.

The Gencos and Hildebrands are residents of Pocono Farms and the Litzes are from Cresco.

After many months of hard work on the part of the three couples and their families, the Casino Theatre Building has taken on a new look inside. The outside will soon, as weather permits, be enhanced by landscaping.

One section of the building has been transformed into one of the most delightful spots in the borough.

The Village Malt Shop opened the weekend of April 4. Ice cream sodas, sundaes and cones, along with coffee, tea and hot chocolate are served.

Tastefully decorated, the Malt Shoppe has ice cream parlor tables, chairs and stools. You can see the rainbow of colors of 20 mouth-watering flavors of ice cream as you pick your favorite cone.

The old-fashioned newsprint paneling enhances the interior of the shop along with crisp white curtains and Tiffany-type lamps.

The Malt Shoppe is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and there is parking space next to the building.

Waitresses and waiters are Cheryl, Victor Jr., and Francis Genco, Karen, Andrea and Joyce Litz, and John Jr. and Douglas Hildrebrand – a real family affair.

Ligend will also open the Casino Theatre in May with “Gone With the Wind.”

To celebrate the theatre opening and the bicentennial, the Malt Shoppe will feature special ice cream treats.

Also located in the Casino Theatre building is Needles N’ Things, a needle craft chop carrying complete stock for needle-crafters.

Coming soon is the opening of the Early American Gift Shop, also located in the Casino Theatre building.
